Venom - Infinite Archive Hybrid Arcanist Build

Venom Written guide Update 40: Q4 2023


That’s right, we have tentacles, we are fast, we are hard to kill and we regenerate from doing damage and we get even MORE from getting KILLS! So EAT THEIR HEADS!

Inspiration taken OBVIOUSLY from the ever infamous Marvel character from the spiderman universe/comics/movies, this character is about as themed as they get BUT…it WORKS!

This is a two bar lightning and fire wielding STAMINA focused Arcanist Build with MAGICAL weapons, so technically, it’s a Hybrid! This is what happens when a Symbiote takes over a stam build! Don’t say Parasite, he doesn’t like it 😉

Under the hood this was designed to be as functional as possible for it’s actual purpose and that is to do damage AND survive the Infinite archive! The build is a TWO bar build so may take a little getting used to for those used to one bar setups but don’t worry, it’s really not as hard as it looks on the surface. The reason for that is, in the Infinite Archive, “rotations” are not exactly KING. Because by the time you have started hitting stuff, it’s dead! If you try to “do a rotation” on every single target, you are going to run out of juice before you know what to do with it.

So the playstyle is very different. It’s more of a case of maintaining buffs, maintaining ground dots and spamming at whatever is inside of the AOEs with beams and venom arms! (tentacles ofc).

So how does it play? It’s simple. You have 4  buffs to keep up, 2 for defence 1 for offence. THEN you have a ground based buff/heal you can maintain. So already nearly half of your build is NOT damage, just maintaining timers. Cruxweaver Armour you need to maintain for your MAJOR resistance buff and gives you crux just for being hit. Runeguard of Freedom you need to maintain for your MINOR resistance buff (and built in emergency heal).

Your scholarship buff actually gives you a damage proc but above all can GIVE you a crux for using an Arcanist ability when you already have NO crux. So yes, using a crux building ability when you have NONE, gives you TWO!

That’s your bread and butter before doing ANY damage, all 3 need to be maintained. But what about damage and sustainability?

Simple, we have ONE set that takes advantage of damage over time ticks and one that gives BACK resources. SO the faster we can do damage over time the better! Yes you may have guessed we are using Azureblight, but with the Arcanist it is incredibly aggressive vs any other class because of the rate of fire the damage overtime can be applied. We have TWO major ground damage over time, for debuffs, damage, potential for burning status, AND we have our beam. While wall of elements and caltrops can tick combined at 2 stacks of Azureblight per second, you Arcanist beam skill actually fires off ticks 3x per second. So every second is 5x stacks! That’s right 4 seconds and BOOM! On repeat! It’s incredibly easy! The trick is to keep enemies close to each other so the explosions are more dramatic.

BUT How do you heal if you are locked into a channelled beam!? EASY! Ring of the pale order heals you for 20% of ALL  damage you do! That’s right, while beaming, you are HEALING! You basically have the damage beam and the ‘healy beam’ COMBINED!

While solo you have a 20% per damage as a heal, but in a group the Ring of the Pale order is useless right? WRONG!

In the Infinite Archive, there are a MAXIMUM of TWO of you. The ring of the pale order is 4% less effective per extra member in the group….you lose BARELY any performance vs the benefit of having a friend!

Now i know some would argue that you cannot take heals from friendlies so that’s a negative? WRONG technically. You heal SO much you don’t need heals from others if you are playing aggressively. BUT Things like Minor life steal is YOU healing for doing damage, and SYNERGIES for cleanses and heals actually apply to YOU because the receiving end of a synergy scales off of YOUR combat stats! So yes, that means all your party member needs to do is bring the undaunted Blood Altar, and you have ALL the extra support you need!

In the infinite archive there are SO many opportunities to boost the incredibly strong base of this build so play smart and take advantage of the way the setup is designed to dramatically enhance it’s performance! (more about that in the video).

Overall, simply keep your ground dots down, build cruxes and BEAM THE ROOM!

Important notes about the build:

  • Heal from ALL damage that you do!
  • Simple application of damage regardless of having two bars!
  • HUGE resistances and GREAT survival overall for a DPS character!
  • Fast ultimate regeneration!
  • Almost infinite sustainability so long as you don’t over do the dodge rolling!
  • Stacking bonuses from the Infinite Archive DRAMATICALLY boosts it’s performance
  • Synergies from group members allow for SUPPORT even though you are using ROTPO!
  • MASSIVE damage shields from ultimate and from your beam
  • Capable solo OR duo!
  • The more stacked enemies are, the more damage you do, make the room EXPLODE!
  • Finally! Getting kills, gives YOU ALL THREE resources back! You’re UNSTOPPABLE!

Champion Points 2.0

The most important thing to note about Champion points is that SOME are passives and SOME are slotable. Each tree, red/green/blue you have to make a CHOICE of which ones to slot to support your build You can only slot 4 per tree, so decisions can be tough. You have to sacrifice SOMETHING because you can’t “have it all”.

Outside of that all the white/yellowish nodes are PASSIVES which means yes, eventually ANY character can actually have them ALL along side their slotable choices.

This is NOT at 3600 (cap) you can actually have ALL passives and a slotable for each available slot, WAY before then, WAY into the half way mark! So don’t worry, it will all come in time!

While Champion points are nice to have, they are not the decider for your performance overall. Sometimes no amount of CP level will stop you dying from standing in DUMB! Your performance overall is your ability to understand and apply the basics, the better you are at those, the more impactful the CPS. If not? It doesn’t make a difference. Dead is dead!

There are players at 300cp that can out play people of 3000cp in ALL content, from mechanical awareness alone! Content is not decided by how many CP you have, it’s decided by how you PLAY!

BUT they are nice to add to your character to improve base stats and skill strength of course!

When building your character, the trick generally is to unlock your passives that OPEN other trees, aim for the slotables you want for your build, then simply spread your points from there until you have exactly what you need.

The video below explains how the changes work in more detail. Of course, over time, additions will be and have already been made to the system but the main BASE of it is the same.


This is for the Infinite Archive, rotations are …BROAD in here since generally speaking you don’t have any one situation that is the same. You don’t need to waste time doing a FULL rotation on every single target. For two reasons. Firstly, if you do that you will run out of resources constantly trying to spend stamina and magicka on a FULL rotation per add, and secondly because by the time you start, it’s probably DEAD!

So the trick is to maintain resources, and maintain buffs, while simply hitting stuff!

So what you need to do is this:

Maintain Cruxweaver Armour and Runeguard, above ALL, these two buffs MUST be active at ALL times. Then try to track Scholarship. It’s not the end of the world if it is down, but you will suffer from crux building if it is. So maintain these 3 skills. Do NOT spam them.

Read them, understand them, maintain them.

In the mean time, if you NEED extra recovery and healing, keep your Domain down on the ground and be sure to utilize your space wisely. AS far as “rotation” goes this is the most time specific it gets, THESE need to be maintained.

NOW to the damage. Wall of elements needs to be on the ground and caltrops needs to be on the ground. So long as enemies are inside those damage over time abilities, the rest is easy.

Rune of displacement/beast trap when needed, and the rest of the time, Cast Flail, Flail, BEAM!!!!! and rinse repeat! Be sure to light attack between every skill and try to make sure you apply this properly. You are basically building 3x cruxes in order to get a stronger beam, that is your MAIN focus, to get damage over time on targets and beam them to hell!

Keep up buffs, keep up ground dots, tentacle, tentacle, BEAAAAAAAM!

We are using The Thief stone.  All 64 Attribute points go into Stamina.

We are an Nord, we have HUGE resistances and great ultimate regen as well as a well balanced combination of health and stamina! However, ANY other race will still perform incredibly well. They will just have different minor passives.

Gear Locations

NOTE: The weapon and spell damage glyphs are specifically weapon and spell damage, BUT the choice of which one is up to you. If you use Taderi/Kuta/Repora you will get stamina recovery with it. If you use Makderi/Kuta/Repora, you will get magicka recovery with it. PERSONALLY i recommend the first one, but the choice is yours. The damage bonuses will be the same regardless!
