Stonefalls Treasure Maps
What Is A Treasure Map?
A treasure map is a special consumable item that guides players to hidden treasure chests scattered throughout the game’s world. These maps are unique because they don’t provide a direct marker or quest indicator on your compass or map. Instead, each treasure map features a sketch or drawing of a specific area, relying on the player’s ability to recognize landmarks, terrain, or environmental features to locate the treasure.
The challenge of deciphering the map adds an element of exploration and puzzle-solving to the game, making it a rewarding experience for those who enjoy adventuring off the beaten path. Treasure maps are typically obtained as random drops from defeated enemies, such as bosses, or found in containers like chests or barrels. They can also be purchased from guild stores or traded with other players, though the drop rate is relatively low, making them a prized find.
Some maps, known as Collector’s Edition (CE) maps, were exclusive to players who pre-ordered the game or purchased specific DLC packs, but these can now only be acquired through trading. To access the treasure, the map must be in your character’s inventory—not your bank—and you must locate a dirt mound at the spot depicted in the sketch. Interacting with this mound consumes the map and reveals a chest containing loot.
The rewards from treasure chests vary but often include gold, crafting materials, equipment, and occasionally rare items like motifs or antiquity leads, which tie into the game’s scrying system. Certain skills, such as the Treasure Hunter or Fortune’s Favor champion passives, or the Mirri’s Expertise perk from the companion Mirri Elendis, can enhance the loot or increase the chance of obtaining maps.
While the loot isn’t always high-value, the thrill of the hunt and the potential for unique rewards make treasure maps a fun and engaging feature in ESO, encouraging players to explore the world thoroughly and pay close attention to their surroundings
