Stonefalls Survey Maps
What Is A Survey Map?
A survey map is a special type of consumable item that guides players to a specific location where they can gather a large quantity of crafting materials. These maps are typically obtained as rewards from completing crafting writs, which are daily quests that involve creating specific items for a profession, such as blacksmithing, woodworking, or alchemy.
Each survey map directs the player to a designated spot in the game world where a cluster of resource nodes—such as ore veins, plants, or wood piles—awaits harvesting. These nodes yield a significantly higher amount of raw materials compared to standard gathering spots, making survey maps highly valuable for players looking to amass resources for crafting or trading.
When a player uses a survey map from their inventory, it reveals a marked location on the in-game map, often in an open-world zone. The player must travel to this spot, which is typically tucked away in a specific area like a clearing, cave, or riverbank. Upon arrival, they find multiple resource nodes grouped closely together, allowing for efficient gathering in a single visit.
The materials collected depend on the type of survey map, corresponding to the associated crafting profession, such as herbs for alchemy or cloth for tailoring. Once the nodes are harvested, the map is consumed, and the location becomes unavailable until another map for that area is used.
Survey maps encourage exploration and reward dedication to crafting, as they provide a reliable way to stockpile materials needed for high-level gear, potions, or furnishings. They are especially useful for players aiming to refine raw materials into processed items or to sell for in-game gold. By integrating gathering with quest rewards, survey maps enhance the crafting system, offering a lucrative incentive for players invested in ESO’s economy and profession progression.
