Stonefalls Public Dungeons
What Is A Public Dungeon?
A public dungeon is a type of open-world group content that provides a challenging yet accessible experience for players in the game’s shared environment. Unlike instanced group dungeons, which require a pre-formed party or matchmaking, public dungeons are freely accessible locations found in the open world, marked on the map with a distinctive cave-like icon featuring a torch.
These dungeons are designed to accommodate multiple players simultaneously, fostering spontaneous cooperation, though skilled or well-geared players can often tackle them solo.
Public dungeons are larger and more complex than typical overland areas, featuring sprawling layouts filled with enemies, puzzles, and objectives. They contain a mix of standard enemies, tougher mini-bosses, and at least one major boss or group event that often requires coordinated effort to defeat. These encounters are balanced to be engaging for groups but manageable for determined solo players, making them versatile for different playstyles. Each zone in ESO typically includes at least one public dungeon, each with its own unique theme, lore, and atmosphere, encouraging exploration and replayability.
Completing objectives in public dungeons offers valuable rewards, such as skill points for finishing specific quests, unique achievements, and special loot tied to bosses, including gear sets or collectibles. The shared nature of these dungeons means players can see and interact with others in real-time, often leading to impromptu alliances to clear tougher enemies or complete group events. This social aspect, combined with respawning enemies and repeatable content, makes public dungeons a dynamic part of ESO’s world.
Public dungeons strike a balance between accessibility and challenge, appealing to both casual players looking to explore and veterans seeking rewarding content. They serve as a bridge between solo overland adventures and more structured group activities, offering a flexible and engaging experience for all.

On your map, public dungeons appear with a blackened cave. Once the public dungeon is completed (by defeating the bosses/mini-bosses and all associated quests), the public dungeon icon turns white.
