What Is A Delve?

Delves are small-scale, instanced dungeons designed for solo or small group play, offering an accessible yet engaging experience within the game’s open-world zones. These compact locations are distinct from larger group dungeons or trials, striking a balance between exploration, combat, and storytelling.

Delves are typically found within each zone’s overworld map, marked by a torch icon, and are integrated into the broader narrative and geography of Tamriel. Each delve contains a self-contained environment, such as caves, ruins, or abandoned forts, filled with enemies, traps, and environmental hazards. The enemies within are usually tied to the zone’s lore, ranging from bandits and undead to Daedric minions or other faction-specific foes.

Combat is manageable for solo players, though difficulty can scale slightly with group size. Delves often include a boss encounter, which serves as the culmination of the delve’s challenges. This boss is tougher than standard enemies but doesn’t require the coordinated mechanics of group dungeon bosses, making it achievable for most players.

Beyond combat, delves reward exploration with hidden treasures, lore books, and collectibles like skyshards, which grant skill points when three are collected. They also feature a short quest, usually tied to the zone’s storyline or a unique delve-specific narrative, providing context and rewards like experience points, gold, or gear. Completing a delve’s quest and defeating its boss often grants an achievement, encouraging players to seek out and clear multiple delves across Tamriel.

Delves are ideal for players looking to engage with ESO’s world without committing to lengthy group content. They offer a mix of combat, lore, and rewards, making them a staple of the solo adventuring experience while still being approachable for small groups. Their replayability comes from daily quests or farming for specific loot, ensuring they remain relevant even for high-level players.
