The Writhing Wall: The Biggest MMORPG Event Since The Sleeper

Writhing Wall Charge - ESO Event

When a community comes together to face something colossal, a moment can transcend its game and enter the halls of MMO legend. The Writhing Wall in The Elder Scrolls Online is precisely that moment — an evolving, server-wide siege event so large that players are already calling it “the biggest thing to happen in an MMORPG since The Sleeper in EverQuest.”

In a genre built on world persistence, nothing carries more power than an event that leaves the world permanently changed. That’s the promise here. When the Writhing Wall falls, the world of Tamriel changes forever. And unlike most in-game events that reset or repeat, this one will never happen again in the same form.

This feature takes you through every angle of the Writhing Wall — from its lore and setup to the competitive race between servers, from community coordination to what happens when the Wall finally breaks. It’s both a guide and a chronicle — a time capsule of one of gaming’s most ambitious undertakings.

Introduction: Why the Writhing Wall Matters

Few events in MMORPG history can claim to permanently reshape the world they inhabit. The Writhing Wall in ESO is one of them. Set on the island of Solstice — a landscape now split in half by a colossal barrier forged from tortured souls — this event marks the turning point in the ongoing Seasons of the Worm Cult storyline.

Writhing Wall Event Begins
“This is the biggest event since The Sleeper — not just in ESO, but in MMO history. The difference? Every player gets to take part in changing the world.”

Like The Sleeper — that fabled EverQuest event where a server’s community awakened a legendary dragon and faced world-altering consequences — the Writhing Wall carries real weight. This isn’t a raid or a dungeon; it’s a coordinated, global assault to dismantle a Daedric creation and open new lands to all.

Lore: The Wall of Souls

The Writhing Wall is a necromantic barrier built from trapped mortal souls. The Worm Cult forged it to divide Solstice, sealing its eastern half behind waves of Coldharbour-born energy. The screams that echo near it aren’t ambiance — they’re the lingering essence of those sacrificed to sustain it.

As the event begins, the Stirk Fellowship establishes forward camps on Solstice and Stirk, rallying players to gather resources, craft siege gear, and repel Daedric incursions. Progress is tracked globally per megaserver — when milestones are met, the event evolves, leading the community through each stage of the battle.

A New Benchmark in MMO History

To understand the Writhing Wall’s impact, it helps to recall Kerafyrm the Sleeper from EverQuest — a one-time event that proved a live world could change forever. ESO’s approach is similar in scale but modern in design: one global war, multiple servers, and a lasting mark on Tamriel itself.

When the Wall finally falls, Eastern Solstice becomes a new permanent region. That means the choices and victories of your server define when — and how — the story advances.

How to Join the Fight

To join the assault, pick up the quest “Support the Fellowship” free from the in-game Crown Store, or speak with Skordo the Knife at either the Stirk Fellowship Camp or Sunport Rampart Camp on Solstice. Every completed daily quest, from gathering Vitrified Souls to defending Siege Camps, contributes to your server’s progress bar.

Preparing for the Writhing Wall

Each server’s advancement is tracked in real time. When a phase completes, new objectives and story steps unlock for everyone — until the Wall itself finally cracks.

Event Phases & Progression

The Battle for the Writhing Wall unfolds across three server-wide stages — each one escalating in scale and intensity. Every player contribution helps your region progress toward the ultimate goal: the destruction of the Wall and access to Eastern Solstice.

Phase 1 – Supply & Defense

Players rally at the Fellowship camps to craft supplies, gather resources, and repel Worm Cult forces across Tamriel. Daily quests from Orinde Glenuvon, Quartermaster Nurwalne, and General Zasimba support the war effort, while delves and public dungeons become invasion sites filled with Coldharbour’s minions.

“Phase One sets the stage — supply, defend, and hold the line until the Wall begins to stir.”

Phase 2 – The Assault Begins

The Worm Cult strikes back. Siege Camp incursions grow more dangerous, and the Daedra Ghishzor the Maldrith emerges as a world boss on Solstice. Crafters and fighters alike strengthen the Fellowship’s offensive as the Wall starts to fracture under the pressure of constant assault.

“The horns sound — this is the assault that will decide Solstice’s fate.”

Phase 3 – Fall of the Writhing Wall

When the Wall is exposed, the Writhing Fortress public dungeon becomes available. Unlike earlier stages, this final phase lasts exactly one week from the first fortress completion on a given server. It’s a race to finish before the timer expires. Only 2025 Content Pass owners can enter and complete this phase.

Those who conquer the fortress earn the exclusive “Wall Breaker” title and permanently open Eastern Solstice for their server.

“Phase 3 is a race against time — one week to tear down the Wall before it seals forever.”

After the Fall – Eastern Solstice Awaits

When the fortress falls, Eastern Solstice unlocks for all 2025 Content Pass owners on that server, beginning Part 2 of the Seasons of the Worm Cult storyline. Speak with Prince Azah at Sunport Rampart Camp to begin the quest “Crossing the Wall.”
