Meet Inarila

Inarila
“My Eyes must be deceiving me. This can’t be the truth. Is that you, Inarila? Oh what has been done to you?!”
The same disbelief I always hear. The same disappointment that follows. I can all but guarantee the words that follow will be something along the lines of ‘You showed so much promise.’ or better yet ‘I would have never foreseen this existence for you.’
“Let me help you up, I can’t believe you ended up in this state!”
Ah, close. Very close. Yeah, help me up. I don’t mind, maybe you have some coins to spare for my next drink as well. I can’t remember your face, but it doesn’t matter anyways. Anyone after three is a ghost to me.
chuckles
At least in this state I don’t have to deal with the memories, the memories of the dead. They haunt me. They are going to get me. Eventually. Better to spend the remainder of my days enjoying life to the fullest. If I could, I would drink all day. Never leave, never sober up, never regret a thing. Eh, who am I kidding. I don’t regret anything anyways.
“How long has it been since we last met? It must have been at least a decade ago, if not more.”
Your face seems familiar, but then, so does any others. So many people met, so many names learned, so many enemies slain for so many thieves. Murders witnessed through the souls of the deceased. What’s another pretty face along the way?
“Can you speak? Can you stand? Where is your home?”
“I’m not telling you shit. What do you care about what I have made of myself? I don’t even know you. Get off me. Unless you want to buy me a drink or hire my sword.”
shrugs off the helper and starts stumbling down the alley, fiddling with the coinsack
“Hostile much, are we? Well, I don’t support whatever state you are in right now, so I will leave this sheet with you. Find me in the morning, I will be staying in the Snowmelt Suite. I hear their breakfast is fantastic. If you can stand in the morning that is. And haven’t stumbled into a knife in the night, that is.”
How gracious.
shakes head with a grimm smile, stuffing the sheet into her armour
At least tomorrow’s breakfast will be paid for. Score!
Mmmmmmh lovely. My head is kil-ling me. Once again. And so the wheel keeps turning. Round and round and rou…. – Oh shit.
continues to relieve what remains of the stomach contents into a plant pot
Urgh.
sighs
Right, Rila, pull yourself together. Time to earn your day’s pay. Uhm, what’s this?
pulls out the sheet, trying to focus on the scribbles
Oooooh, that’s right. Miss Smugface helped me out of the Pit yesterday. Might as well check out what she is about. Maybe her pockets are as deep as her heart is bleeding. Only one way about it.
wandering over to the washing bowl
Well, that face has seen better days. Hmmm, a Birdbath might be on the menu. Mommy would be so proud of me for sure! Sad, that I am not kidding isn’t it. They say one shouldn’t blame everything on one’s parents. But this one really did a number on me. Mommy’s Aedra and Daddy’s little girl – until the doors shut. Whatever. Seen worse since then, so might as well get on with it.
shaking her head in an attempt to rid herself of the rabbit hole presenting itself as she is leaving her room
“RILLY! Over here!”
Brrrr how I hate that nickname. There is only one person who would dare to call me that name. I can’t believe it had to be her to give me my appointment for the day. Would have rather seen my mother at this point.
plastering a smile on her face
“Well if it isn’t Munfurawa. What brings you to this dreadful place?! Last I heard you made it big as a scholar or something. Clearly you must have found some source of magic, look at you. You look worse than me!”
“Don’t make me laugh. You were never one to shy away from insults. I did study in some ways I guess. However, enough catching up. I sought you out because of your skill with a sword and shield and ways to summon the dead. Is that still in there somewhere or have you drunk it all away?”
Fucken witch, always giving as good as she is getting. Fine, I’ll humor her. Should be interesting if little Miss Perfect, to whom no one could ever compare, is asking for my help. Aw Ma-a-an, I did it again. Let my parents in my head. Get out! Out, I say!
“Rilly? I have got to ask you for a favor on this Quest of mine. I thought I could do it alone, but two Shields are needed here. Rilly, are you listening?!”
“I don’t do – ‘Favors’. What’s in it for me?”
“Why don’t you sit down and I will discuss the Quest with you in detail!”
sits down at the table with a disapproving grunt while pretending to listen to elaborate plan
This woman can talk, it’s ridiculous. You’d think she would have to come up for air every once in a while, but no. Just blabbering away. These Quests always work the same way anyways. You show up, half the battalion isn’t there – got stuck watching monkeys or something. So you wait around and get tired as well as annoyed, cause what makes them think their time is more valuable?! Once everyone is finally present you go over “The Strategy” again as if it’s a holy grail or something. You continue to do so before e-v-e-r-y s-i-n-g-l-e f-i-g-h-t, because somehow that’s supposed to prevent anyone from dying. And finally you don’t finish what you set out to do because regardless of how skilled people are: half a day, without rest is just too much for the average mind. So mistakes happen more often, people feel as though they are walking backwards and give up eventually. See my method is much better. I just show up. And fight. That’s it. I mean, I can see when a sword is risen against me. I can see if the floor is suddenly on fire, I can see if I need an allies’ help. A general overview of the fight helps for sure. But is the extent of it really necessary?
“Sound good to you?”
Oh shit. Uhm.
“As long as I get famously rewarded for my efforts I am up for anything.”
Ha-ha, thought you’d trip me up because I wasn’t listening, but I got conversational skills!
“I can’t guarantee ‘famously’, but I can say whatever you scavenge, you can keep. Some of the Loot might be very interesting to your particular inclination.”
Hmmm Of course there is no pay. There is never any pay. Seeing as all of us set out together. Investing our time and effort just as much as the next person. Fine. Whatever I pick up is mine at least. And trading is always an option. Maybe I can skin someone if they forget their soul gems. Wouldn’t be the first time.
“Right, I am in. Now where is that breakfast you promised me?”
“Breakfast? You silly goose! Always out trying to gain something from just showing up! Don’t make me laugh. See you tomorrow to test your metal! Byeeee!”
scoffs while sliding down in the chair a bit looking at the ceiling and letting her hands slide off to the sides, dangling
Of course she is a cheap goat. People never change do they? Best to accept them as they are and spare yourself the disappointment. I mean …
stands up in order to leave
… just look at me!
