Overview

Varaine Pellingare is encountered in Wayrest Sewers I . This is a very mobile encounter if the mechanics are not controlled correctly, with Varaine using heavy attacks, ground-based AOEs, and a fast-moving shockwave.

The tank should maintain taunt and keep Varaine facing away from the group while everyone pays attention to the visual cues for his attacks. Good positioning allows the group to avoid unnecessary movement and keep consistent damage on the boss.

Mechanics

Heavy Attack – Varaine will occasionally wind up a large heavy attack against whoever currently has aggro, which should normally be the tank.

The tank should block this attack rather than trying to run away from it. If another group member is targeted, they should also block to reduce the incoming damage.

Ground AOE – Varaine will occasionally create a large AOE around himself. The effect expands outward from the boss and anyone caught inside it will take damage.

Pay attention to the ground and move out of the affected area before it expands over your position. Once the mechanic has finished, move back into position and continue attacking the boss.

Shockwave – Varaine will slam his weapon into the ground and send a fast-moving shockwave across the room.

This attack travels quickly, so you need to react as soon as you see it coming. Move out of its path rather than standing still and allowing it to hit you.

Positioning is important throughout the fight. The tank should keep Varaine controlled and facing away from the group while DPS and healers remain behind him whenever possible. This makes his attacks much easier to see and react to.

Tips & Strategy

  • Tank: Maintain taunt, keep Varaine facing away from the group, and block his Heavy Attack rather than moving the boss unnecessarily.
  • DPS: Stay behind the boss where possible, move out of the expanding ground AOE, and watch carefully for the Shockwave.
  • Healer: Stay behind Varaine with the group, keep everyone supported, and avoid the ground AOE and Shockwave.
  • Everyone: Watch Varaine's visual cues, block the Heavy Attack if targeted, move out of the expanding AOE, and avoid the fast-moving Shockwave.
