The Rat Whisperer – Wayrest Sewers I Boss

Overview
The Rat Whisperer is encountered in Wayrest Sewers I . This is a fairly comical encounter, with the boss dancing on the spot until the group engages him.
His mechanics are relatively simple and most can be avoided or controlled, but things can become messy quickly if the group does not pay attention to the skeevers and his interruptible abilities.
Mechanics
Skeever Swarm – When The Rat Whisperer shouts “come to me my minions,” he will summon a large group of skeevers. These have low health and individually do not hit particularly hard, but if they are not controlled quickly the tank and group can be overwhelmed.
Do not panic when the skeevers appear. If they are on you, the worst thing you can do is run around the room. The tank should maintain control of the boss while the group burns the skeevers down quickly before returning their full attention to the boss.
Magic Bomb – When The Rat Whisperer raises his staff, he summons a large magic orb that lands on whoever currently has aggro, which should normally be the tank. The orb explodes when it hits the ground and deals a small amount of tick damage over time.
This attack does not hit the tank particularly hard, and DPS and healers should simply stay out of the affected area. This ability can also be interrupted, meaning the group may never have to deal with it if the interrupt is performed in time.
Slam – This ability is also channeled and can be interrupted. The Rat Whisperer casts swirling ice at the target, normally the tank or whoever currently has aggro.
The attack can hurt quite a bit if it lands, so DPS should be careful and the targeted player should block if necessary. Interrupting the channel prevents the mechanic from happening altogether.
Tips & Strategy
- Tank: Maintain control of The Rat Whisperer and the skeevers. Do not run around when the swarm appears.
- DPS: Burn down the Skeever Swarm quickly before returning to the boss, and interrupt his channeled abilities whenever possible.
- Healer: Keep the group supported if the skeevers begin to stack up and stay clear of the Magic Bomb AOE.
- Everyone: Stay together and controlled when the skeevers appear. Interrupt Magic Bomb and Slam to prevent their effects from occurring.
