Chokethorn – Elden Hollow I Boss

Overview
Chokethorn is encountered in Elden Hollow I . The mechanics are simple and easy to recognise, but the fight can quickly become messy if the group does not deal with them correctly.
The tank should maintain taunt and keep Chokethorn facing away from the group. The remaining players should spread around the boss while staying relatively close. The tank should also block the occasional heavy attacks to avoid being knocked down.
Mechanics
Vine Pull – If you move too far away from Chokethorn, the boss will chain you back in and briefly hold you in place. The attack itself deals minimal damage, but it can become dangerous when immediately followed by the Burst mechanic. Stay close to the boss unless another mechanic requires you to move.
Burst – Every few seconds Chokethorn buries its head into the ground and a very large AOE begins spreading outward from the centre of the room. Move out of the AOE as it expands and return close to the boss as soon as it disappears.
Burst deals extremely high damage. An unshielded DPS or healer who does not block can lose around 90% of their maximum health and, if unlucky, can be killed outright. A tank has a much lower chance of dying to it, but will still be knocked down if caught by the attack.
Healing Stranglers – Small Stranglers spawn around the room throughout the fight and attach healing beams to Chokethorn, restoring small amounts of health. These enemies can either be killed or interrupted.
Once a Healing Strangler has been dealt with, return to position so Chokethorn cannot pull you in with Vine Pull. Groups with lower damage should prioritise these enemies because multiple uninterrupted Stranglers can stack their healing and make the boss increasingly difficult to kill.
Tips & Strategy
- Tank: Maintain taunt, turn Chokethorn away from the group and block the occasional heavy attacks.
- DPS: Prioritise Healing Stranglers if their stacked healing is preventing the group from damaging the boss effectively.
- Healer: Stay relatively close to Chokethorn and be prepared for the high damage caused by Burst.
- Everyone: Move out when Burst expands, return close to the boss when it finishes and interrupt or kill Healing Stranglers.
