The Hive Lord Boss - Darkshade Caverns I

Overview

The Hive Lord is encountered in Darkshade Caverns I . This fight is all about controlling the boss, staying close and dealing with the additional kwama that appear throughout the fight.

The tank should keep the boss taunted and facing away from the group. The DPS and healer should remain fairly close rather than spreading around the room, as moving too far away can trigger one of the boss's most dangerous attacks.

Mechanics

Heavy Attack – The Hive Lord has a heavy attack which should be aimed at the tank. As with any heavy attack, watch for the wind-up and BLOCK it. The tank should keep the boss facing away from the rest of the group so the DPS and healer are not unnecessarily placed in front of him.

Ground Pound – If players move too far away from the boss, the Hive Lord can begin pounding the ground and repeatedly send out damaging attacks. This mechanic needs to be INTERRUPTED.

The easiest way to prevent this from becoming a problem is to stay reasonably close to the boss. If he does begin the Ground Pound, get in and interrupt him as quickly as possible rather than allowing the attack to continue.

Kwama Adds – Additional kwama will appear during the fight. The tank should control these enemies and bring them into the group where possible rather than allowing them to spread around the room.

The DPS should use AOE damage to deal with the kwama while continuing to damage the Hive Lord. There is no need to abandon the boss and start chasing individual enemies around the room. Keep everything together and let the additional enemies die alongside the boss.

Staying close also makes the entire fight easier to control. The tank can hold the boss and adds together, the healer can cover the group more easily and everyone is in position to react if the Hive Lord begins his Ground Pound.

Tips & Strategy

  • Tank: Keep the Hive Lord taunted and facing away from the group while controlling the additional kwama.
  • DPS: Stay fairly close and use AOE damage to kill the kwama alongside the boss.
  • Healer: Stay with the group and remain close enough to react to the boss's mechanics.
  • Everyone: Do not spread too far away, block if targeted by a Heavy Attack and interrupt Ground Pound quickly.
