Cutting Sphere – Darkshade Caverns I Boss

Overview

Cutting Sphere is encountered in Darkshade Caverns I . This fight has several different attacks to watch for, along with additional Dwarven enemies that need to be kept under control.

The tank should keep the boss taunted and control the additional enemies while the group stays together. Positioning is important here, especially when the Cutting Sphere begins moving or changes between its different attacks.

Mechanics

Dart – The Cutting Sphere can fire a dart at its target. The tank should have the boss's attention, but whoever is targeted needs to pay attention and BLOCK the attack rather than simply taking the damage.

Slam – The boss will raise itself up before slamming back down, creating an AOE around itself. Watch for the animation and move out of the affected area rather than remaining underneath the boss when the attack lands.

Once the Slam has finished, move back into position. You do not need to run across the room. Simply step out of danger and return when it is safe.

Steam Attack – The Cutting Sphere can release steam around itself. Pay attention when this begins and move away from the dangerous area until the attack has finished.

Spin – The boss can begin spinning and moving around the room. Do NOT chase it around or stand in its path while it is spinning. Let the mechanic happen, keep yourself safe and reposition once the boss settles again.

The tank should maintain control where possible, but the group should not make the fight harder by following the Cutting Sphere everywhere it moves. Pay attention to where it is going and give it the space it needs during the Spin.

Dwarven Adds – Additional Dwarven enemies are present during the fight and need to be controlled. The tank should gather them wherever possible so they are not attacking different members of the group from around the room.

The DPS should use AOE damage to deal with the additional enemies while continuing to damage the Cutting Sphere. Keep everything organised rather than splitting up and chasing individual targets.

Tips & Strategy

• Tank: Keep the Cutting Sphere taunted and control the additional Dwarven enemies wherever possible.
• DPS: Use AOE damage on the adds and react to the boss's attacks rather than chasing it around the room.
• Healer: Stay with the group and keep a safe position when the boss begins moving or using its AOEs.
• Everyone: Block Dart, move out for Slam and Steam Attack, and stay clear while the Cutting Sphere is spinning.
