Cavern Patriarch – Darkshade Caverns I Boss

Overview

Cavern Patriarch is encountered in Darkshade Caverns I . This boss is a large netch with some very simple mechanics, but the group still needs to pay attention to positioning and the attacks happening around the boss.

The tank should keep the boss controlled while the DPS and healer find a safe position around it. There is no need for the group to run around the room. Watch the boss, react to its attacks and stay out of anything dangerous on the ground.

Mechanics

Heavy Attack – The Cavern Patriarch has a Heavy Attack which should be directed at the tank. As soon as you see the Heavy Attack coming, BLOCK it. Do not simply stand there and take the hit.

The tank should keep control of the boss so this attack is aimed at them rather than another member of the group. If somebody else does get the boss's attention, they need to be ready to block rather than assuming the tank will immediately take it back.

Poison AOE – The boss can create a large poison AOE on the ground. Do NOT stand inside it. The damage will continue while you remain in the affected area, so move out rather than expecting the healer to keep you alive through unnecessary damage.

Pay attention to your feet and reposition when the poison appears. You only need to move enough to get yourself into a safe position. There is no reason to sprint around the room and drag the fight away from the group.

The fight remains relatively straightforward as long as the boss is controlled. Keep the Cavern Patriarch in one place where possible, block the Heavy Attack and move out of the poison when it appears.

Tips & Strategy

• Tank: Keep the Cavern Patriarch controlled and block its Heavy Attack.
• DPS: Stay in a safe position and move out of the poison when it appears.
• Healer: Stay with the group and avoid taking unnecessary damage from the poison.
• Everyone: Watch your positioning, block if the Heavy Attack is aimed at you and stay out of the Poison AOE.
