The Mage Master – Crypt of Hearts I Boss

The Mage Master Boss - Crypt of Hearts I

Overview

The Mage Master is encountered in Crypt of Hearts I . He is accompanied by four mage-type enemies which must be controlled by the tank from the very beginning so they do not run around the room.

The DPS and healer also need to pay attention to interrupts, so do not run around the room. Relax, stop the enemies from doing anything dangerous and keep the fight controlled. The tank should hold everything as still as possible throughout the encounter and chain in any adds that try to run away.

Mechanics

Heavy Attack – This is a simple melee attack in the form of an uppercut and must be blocked. It will only hit whoever has aggro, which should mainly be the tank unless the taunt has dropped. The attack deals a lot of damage if it is not blocked, but if you block it the damage is much lower. Do not miss the block or you will also be knocked over.

Elemental Ring – This creates a donut-shaped AOE on the floor, usually leaving the tank positioned in the middle. The area inside the ring and outside the ring is safe, but touching the edges will deal a fair amount of damage. Avoid standing on the edges for long periods of time.

Negate – Usually after the Elemental Ring, the boss will place a Negate bubble on top of the same area. This creates a choice depending on your role and positioning. DPS and healers should make sure they are outside the bubble. As the tank, if you are taking damage you can leave the bubble, or you can remain inside, hold taunt, block and rely on your healer.

While standing inside the Negate bubble you cannot use any Magicka abilities until it has gone. Stamina abilities, Heavy Attacks and blocking will still work. Choose whether to remain inside or move out based on what is most comfortable for your group and the resources available to you.

Tips & Strategy

  • Tank: Control the boss and all four mage-type enemies from the beginning, chain in any adds that try to move away and keep everything as still as possible. Block the Heavy Attack and be aware that Magicka abilities cannot be used while standing inside the Negate bubble.
  • DPS: Stay controlled rather than running around the room, help interrupt enemies when required and remain outside the Negate bubble so your Magicka abilities are not disabled.
  • Healer: Stay outside the Negate bubble, watch for interrupts and be ready to support the tank if they choose to remain inside the bubble while holding the boss and adds.
  • Everyone: Avoid the damaging edges of Elemental Ring, pay attention to interrupts and keep the fight controlled rather than spreading enemies around the room.
