Xivilai Rukan – City of Ash II Boss
Overview
Xivilai Rukan is one of three bosses fought in this area of City of Ash II. The encounter features multiple Daedra that can quickly overwhelm unprepared groups. There’s no strict order to defeat them in, but most players prefer killing the melee boss first — he hits extremely hard and summons adds. The tank should immediately grab agro and hold the boss steady while the group positions behind him.
The fight can look chaotic, but it’s manageable with control and coordination. Stay spread, block heavy attacks, and take out Atronachs quickly.
Mechanics
Heavy Attack – Rukan performs a massive melee swing that can one-shot a DPS or healer if not blocked. The attack has a huge knockback, so tanks must always block it. If you pull aggro as a non-tank and get hit by this, you’ll be launched across the room and likely die — so pay attention!
Flame Atronachs – Throughout the fight, Rukan will summon Flame Atronachs. These adds have low health but will overwhelm you if ignored. Depending on group damage, you can either burn the boss and clean up later or kill Atronachs immediately as they spawn. If your DPS is low, prioritize the adds to avoid being swarmed.
Burst – Occasionally, the boss channels a massive spreading AoE across the ground. All DPS and healers should move out immediately. This ability deals heavy damage and has a strong knockback that can displace the tank if not managed properly. Tanks can block through it, but it’s safer to roll-dodge and reposition at his feet once the AoE ends.
Healer – Alongside Rukan is a Daedric healer that teleports around the arena. Interrupt its healing channels and kill it whenever it appears. The healer stacks with other Daedra easily, so take it down fast before it can sustain the group of enemies.
Archer – The archer companion fires fiery AoE volleys that cover the ground in flame. Stand between the gaps when possible to avoid burning. Like the healer, this enemy can teleport to a new position and continue attacking. Interrupt the archer’s skill casts when possible to reduce damage to the group.
Tips & Strategy
- Tank: Grab Rukan immediately and face him away from the group. Keep blocks ready for his heavy attack.
- DPS: Focus on add control — Flame Atronachs can spiral the fight out of control fast.
- Healer: Prioritize healing through the burst phase and keep the tank topped off after knockbacks.
- Everyone: Spread out, manage interrupts, and stay alert for teleporting enemies.
