Horvantud the Fire Maw – City of Ash II Boss

Horvantud the Fire Maw Boss - City of Ash II

Overview

Horvantud the Fire Maw — affectionately known as “Mega Jeff” — is a massive Daedroth with surprisingly low health for his size, but don’t underestimate him. His heavy AoE stomps, flame breath, and add phases can easily wipe unprepared groups. The tank must keep Horvantud still and faced away from the group at all times, while DPS spread near his back to avoid overlapping AoEs.

The key to this fight is discipline — no over-moving, no stacking, and proper focus on adds when they appear. Handle each phase cleanly and you’ll win easily.

Mechanics

Stomp – Horvantud occasionally stomps the ground, sending a shockwave in front of him. This attack knocks back and deals heavy Flame Damage. DPS and healers should never stand in front of the boss; the tank should block and absorb it.

Breath – The Daedroth unleashes a massive cone of fire breath that covers a large area in front of him. The tank can block this, but anyone else caught in it will take extreme Flame Damage and likely die. Stay behind or to the sides — under no circumstance should DPS or healers stand in front.

Ground Pound – Horvantud punches the ground repeatedly, creating multiple AoE circles beneath players. These deal moderate damage but can be avoided by light side-to-side movement. Do not sprint around — just move calmly and reposition when needed.

Dremora Adds – At 75%, 50%, and 25% health, Horvantud summons waves of Dremora. These adds must be prioritized — focus them immediately, bring them close for AoE, and clear them before returning to the boss. If you push Horvantud into the next phase before killing the current wave, you’ll face overlapping add spawns and likely wipe.

Tips & Strategy

  • Tank: Keep Horvantud’s face away from the group. Block stomps and breath attacks; manage positioning to avoid AoE chaos.
  • DPS: Focus Dremora waves immediately at each threshold. Stay spread near his back to avoid fire cones.
  • Healer: Prepare burst heals during Ground Pound and Dremora phases. Clean movement and awareness keep the group alive.
  • Everyone: Watch your feet. All fire AoEs are clearly visible — stay calm and sidestep to survive.
