Fanged Menace – Arx Corinium Boss

Fanged Menace Boss - Arx Corinium

Overview

Fanged Menace is the first boss in Arx Corinium. This fight is notorious for breaking unprepared groups — the mechanics are straightforward, but ignoring positioning or area awareness will wipe an otherwise easy encounter. The number one rule here: watch your feet!

Mechanics

Lamia Adds – The room is packed with Lamia-type enemies. The tank must gather them tightly so they can be burned down quickly with AoE damage. They have moderate health but spawn in large numbers and use heavy attacks plus scream abilities that can be interrupted. Everyone should stay alert and avoid stacking directly on the boss — pull the adds slightly to one side in case the Fanged Menace coils.

Whip – A wide frontal tail attack aimed at whoever has aggro (usually the tank). If you’re caught in front, block or dodge roll immediately. The safest tactic is to keep the boss turned away from the group while everyone else stays behind it. If the whip isn’t blocked, it will knock you backward and often be followed by a heavy attack. Be ready to recover fast.

Poison Coil – This is the key mechanic and what makes or breaks most groups. When the boss curls up, a large green poison AoE appears. Standing inside it will rapidly drain your Health and simultaneously heal the boss for roughly 5% of its maximum Health per second. Simply step out, maintain distance, and continue attacking from range until the effect fades. Tanks and DPS alike must react instantly — one person standing in poison too long can reset the fight’s progress.

If players pay attention to ground AoEs and interrupt Lamia screams, this encounter becomes trivial. Ignore them, and it quickly becomes a nightmare for any pug group. Watch your feet, stay calm, and focus the boss once adds are cleared.

Tips & Strategy

  • Tank: Pull all Lamias together, face the boss away from the group, and block Whip attacks.
  • DPS: Focus AoE on adds first, then maintain distance when Poison Coil begins.
  • Healer: Keep steady HoTs rolling during poison phases; cleanse or shield quickly if someone stands too long.
  • Everyone: Avoid panic movement — small, controlled steps out of poison zones are safest.
