Round 9: Theater of Despair – Voriak Solkyn

Overview
Rule number one — don’t panic! This boss has a lot going on and can overwhelm anyone who rushes. There is no DPS race here. Voriak Solkyn’s fight has three major phases, each requiring precision and awareness. Mastering his mechanics is the only way to complete Maelstrom Arena successfully.
Mechanics
Skull Throw – Solkyn winds up and hurls a skull projectile that deals very high damage and knocks you down. This can be blocked or dodge rolled. Never ignore the animation — it will one-shot low Health players.
Burst – When he crouches and channels a spreading AoE under himself, it will detonate after a short delay. Move away or block to avoid being thrown across the arena.
Skull Channel – The boss raises his staff and bombards you with a series of skull projectiles. Interrupt immediately, or use the shield synergy to reflect it. Failure to react will kill you.
Teleport – Roughly every 20 seconds Solkyn teleports to a new position. Save your burst damage until after he relocates so you don’t waste resources mid-teleport.
Adds – Two primary adds spawn in this fight: a healer (which must die fast to prevent healing and fire attacks) and a slow-moving walker add from earlier rounds. If left alive, it will summon a Bone Colossus. Kill both immediately to avoid chaos.
Jeff – Solkyn will summon a Daedroth (nicknamed Jeff). This add must die every time it spawns. If left alive, it will breathe constant fire and apply an unavoidable burning DoT that persists until Jeff is killed. He is always top priority — even more than the boss himself.
Phase One
The fight begins in the center of the room with only you and Solkyn. He uses basic attacks and skull throws. Block or dodge them, and watch for the Skull Channel ability. When he reaches roughly 75% Health, he teleports away.
The Deadroth (Jeff) will be summoned during the fight, Whenever he does, he is a PRIORITY.
When the boss teleports, you must follow him. To follow him, activate one of three pads on the floor (most be the one that is glowing). To do this, lure a clanfear to the location and kill it ON the pad. This allows you to activate the teleport so you can go upstairs. During this time, avoid the floating lich crystals and never go up if Jeff is still alive — his DoT will follow you and kill you upstairs.
Phase Two
Upstairs, three crystals in the the area, THESE are your targets! Meteors constantly fall from above — never stop moving. If you stand still, you’ll be stunned and killed. The boss continues On rotation uses 2 skulls per phae, one at a time. You need to block or dodge these. Keep eyes on the middle of the room to see when he is channeling.
After the boss has fired his SECOND SKULL (only one on the first rotation) he will summon a spinning wall that circles the arena while he channels. hide behind the wall as fast as possible and follow it. When he explodes, if you're behind it, you're safe. If not, you get flung off and have to repeat phase one.
Each time he summons the wall between 2 skull mechanics, the wall will get faster, making it more and more difficult the longer you take to kill the crystal. Also after the first wall, you consistently take damage over time. This escilates dramatically the longer you take. SOMETIMES it helps to just jump off and reapproach. Each time you go upstairs the room resets, but the crystals remain as they were. You can take your time, but resetting the damage up their helps a lot.
Phase Three – The Final Fight
This phase includes every mechanic from before, plus gold ghosts that appear around the arena. Picking up three ghosts stuns Solkyn temporarily, giving a brief DPS window. However, if he collects three ghosts, he explodes — killing you instantly.
New Jeffs will spawn throughout this phase. Always kill them first, then focus Solkyn. Avoid skulls, block bursts, and maintain awareness of ghosts. The walker add also returns — kill it quickly before it can summon another Bone Colossus.
Repeat the process: interrupt channels, avoid teleports, block bursts, and manage adds. With discipline and clean mechanics, the boss will fall. This fight is all about control and rhythm, not raw speed.
Final Tip: Stay calm. Kill Jeffs, collect ghosts, and keep mechanics clean. There’s no rush — focus on survival and precision and you’ll clear it. There is NO "dps check". If you spend 90% of the time on adds and only 10% on boss, so long as you're not dead and he doesn't have gold ghosts, you will still do it! GOOD LUCK!
