Round 8: Igneous Cistern – Valkyn Tephra

Overview
This boss is simple on paper but chaotic in practice. The key rule is adds first — every enemy in the room must die before focusing Valkyn. If you ignore them, mechanics will overlap and the fight will quickly spiral out of control. Keep your distance; staying too close will only make this fight harder.
Mechanics
Totems – Three totems appear around the arena. Destroy each one to weaken Valkyn. Once all are destroyed, the boss is stunned briefly, giving you a damage window. With high enough damage you can finish him here, otherwise prepare to repeat the cycle.
Flame Shaper – Flame Shapers spawn throughout the fight. If they raise their staff and begin channeling, interrupt immediately or you will die to their fireballs. These are your top priority; kill them before anything else.
Flame Atronachs – Around the second lap, two Flame Atronachs may spawn. Kill them quickly to avoid unnecessary extra damage while you’re dealing with totems and Valkyn.
Cleave – If you get too close, Valkyn will swing his sword in a wide arc and knock you back. Try not to stand in melee range unless you have to — this attack can be fatal if caught off guard.
Fireball – Occasionally the boss spits a fireball at you. It can be blocked or dodged and doesn’t hit hard, but don’t ignore it if your health is low.
Chain – From the third lap onwards, Valkyn can use a fiery chain to pull you in. Block immediately or expect a follow-up cleave. Stay mobile and don’t linger near him.
Explosion – If the fight drags into a fourth lap, Valkyn channels an explosion covering most of the arena. Move as far away as possible to find a safe gap and survive. Staying close guarantees death.
Tips & Strategy
- Kill adds first: Never push Valkyn phases with adds alive.
- Interrupt Flame Shapers: Their fireballs will wipe you if ignored.
- Stay mobile: The further you are, the fewer mechanics you’ll need to block or dodge.
- Save ultimates: Use them during the stun phase after the last totem falls.
Final Tip: This fight is about control, not speed. Pace your damage and don’t panic when fire fills the room — awareness wins this fight every time.
