The Cultist – ESO Hybrid Necromancer Build (Ascending Tide)
The Elder Scrolls Online is always evolving, and that constant change is part of what makes the game fun. New systems, new interactions, and new ways to play mean there’s always something to test — and sometimes, something completely unexpected just works.
With the Ascending Tide DLC, ZeniMax Online Studios finally introduced proper stat consolidation. Before this update, stamina builds were forced to stack weapon damage and stamina, while magicka builds had to stack spell damage and magicka just to function properly.
That limitation is gone.
In the current system, your two highest offensive stats are what matter. Whether you stack weapon damage and magicka, spell damage and stamina, or something in between, those two stats now scale all damage and healing, regardless of whether an ability costs stamina or magicka.
That means you can stack spell damage and still use Vigor, stack weapon damage and still drop Wall of Elements, run magicka while using stamina Blastbones, or stack stamina and freely use Boneyard. The way you play is completely up to you.
The Cultist lands at exactly the right time. This build fully embraces the new hybrid scaling system by mixing stamina and magicka abilities while stacking heavily into stamina and weapon damage — just like a traditional stamina setup — but without ignoring the magicka bar.
High-cost, non-spammable magicka abilities allow us to actively use that resource pool without draining it, while stamina skills are cheap due to bonuses and specific choices, easing pressure on stamina sustain overall. No ground AOEs or big skills nuking your resources(that's for te magicka bar). The result is excellent uptime, strong sustain, and — most importantly — spare stamina for those inevitable “oh no” moments where you need to dodge, break free, or reposition.
Most stamina builds struggle in heavy CC situations because stamina is tied to everything. Magicka builds struggle because their stamina pool is tiny. This build avoids both problems. You actively use both resource bars, keeping pressure up with no real downside.
Depending on group composition (covered in the video), you can even swap your main spammable to a magicka option for additional damage — without changing the rotation or restructuring the build. Thanks to the Armoury system, these swaps are fast, flexible, and situation-dependent.
This is a true hybrid Necromancer build, designed for players of all skill levels and capable of handling all content and difficulties. Whether you’re stacking and burning or dancing around mechanics, this build performs consistently — no “can’t reach the boss, rip DPS” moments here.
💀 Why The Cultist Works
- Exceptional sustain — stamina remains available during heavy CC situations
- Huge AoE damage with strong single-target pressure at the same time
- Base health and penetration bonuses provide durability and damage without micromanagement
- Melee and ranged options for maximum flexibility in mechanics-heavy fights
- Simple rotation — no excessive bar swapping or dummy-only tricks
- Accessible gear — most items obtainable on normal difficulty or via the market
- True hybrid gameplay — effective, flexible, and actually fun
- Group-ready out of the box, with room to scale even higher based on composition
If you’re tired of the old magicka versus stamina divide and want a build that adapts to you instead of forcing rigid playstyles, The Cultist is built to thrive in modern The Elder Scrolls Online .

Class Mastery
Update 50 has given us a new system called Class Mastery in The Elder Scrolls Online. If you decide to remain 100% pure class, you gain access to five unique Class Mastery passives, but can only choose two. These are the two selected for this build.

Options: If no one else in your group is supplying Major Vulnerability, you can swap Shooting Star for Pestilent Colossus. This gives the group a powerful damage window while still maintaining strong personal DPS — perfect for coordinated dungeon and trial play.
☠️ The Cultist – Rotation Overview
The Cultist rotation is deliberately designed to be smooth, repeatable, and reliable. There are no staggered timers, no forced micromanagement, and no unnecessary bar swaps. Once learned, this rotation never changes.
⚔️ Basic Rotation
Front Bar
Light Attack → Venom Skull → Light Attack → Blastbones → Light Attack → Detonating Siphon → Light Attack → Venom Skull → Light Attack → Blastbones → Light Attack → Barbed Trap → Weapon Swap
Back Bar
Light Attack → Boneyard → Light Attack → Blastbones → Light Attack → Skeletal Archer → Light Attack → Unstable Wall of Elements → Weapon Swap
Repeat this sequence endlessly. Everything will land exactly when it is supposed to, maintaining full uptime across the entire kit.
💡 Important Notes
- There is a deliberate ~1 second gap between Blastbones cooldowns each cycle. This is intentional and improves combat flow.
- The rotation avoids excessive bar swapping, making it far more reliable in high-load combat situations.
- Once you learn the rhythm, you never need to adjust or adapt the rotation.
⚠️ Ultimate Considerations
If you are using the Kinra variant, firing your ultimate can cause stack fall-off. Skipping the pet cast during that rotation can help, but this requires practice.
Sometimes, less is more. Keep it simple — real combat performance matters more than dummy perfection.
🔁 TL;DR
- ➡️ Follow the front bar exactly
- ➡️ Follow the back bar exactly
- ➡️ Repeat forever
- ➡️ The Blastbones gap is intentional
🏆 Champion Points – The Cultist, Necromancer DPS Setup
Champion Points play a major role in the performance of The Cultist. This setup focuses on consistent damage over time, corpse synergy, and survivability while maintaining strong sustain for longer encounters and real combat situations.
Once you reach level 50, Champion Points continue your progression across three constellations: Warfare (Blue), Fitness (Red), and Craft (Green). The Cultist prioritizes sustained pressure, AOE damage, and passive survivability rather than burst-only setups.

Gear Options
Below are several optimized gear setups for the Cultist. Each setup supports the same core rotation and corpse management loop but offers different strengths depending on group composition, encounter type, and content difficulty. These options allow you to tailor the build for raw damage, utility, or smoother uptime without changing how it plays.
The Cultist – Gear Setup
| Slot | Gear Set | Weight / Type | Trait | Enchantment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Head | Zaan | Light | Divines | Stamina |
| Shoulders | Zaan | Light | Divines | Stamina |
| Chest | Arms of Relequen / Pillar of Nirn | Medium | Divines | Stamina |
| Waist | Arms of Relequen / Pillar of Nirn | Medium | Divines | Stamina |
| Hands | Arms of Relequen / Pillar of Nirn | Medium | Divines | Stamina |
| Legs | Arms of Relequen / Pillar of Nirn | Medium | Divines | Stamina |
| Feet | Arms of Relequen / Pillar of Nirn | Medium | Divines | Stamina |
| Ring 1 | Venomous Smite / Kinra’s Wrath | Jewelry | Infused | Weapon Damage |
| Ring 2 | Venomous Smite / Kinra’s Wrath | Jewelry | Bloodthirsty | Weapon Damage |
| Necklace | Venomous Smite / Kinra’s Wrath | Jewelry | Bloodthirsty | Weapon Damage |
| Weapon 1 | Venomous Smite / Kinra’s Wrath (Dagger) | Weapon | Charged | Flame Damage |
| Weapon 2 | Venomous Smite / Kinra’s Wrath (Dagger) | Weapon | Charged | Poison Damage |
| Weapon 3 | Perfected Maelstrom Inferno Staff | Inferno Staff | Infused | Weapon / Spell Damage |
As explained in the video, you can use Kinra’s Wrath if you prefer, but keep in mind that Major Berserk does not stack. This also requires very tight rotational accuracy to avoid losing stacks during bar swaps.
Damage output between Kinra’s Wrath and Venomous Smite is extremely close. However, Venomous Smite applies area-of-effect pressure rather than single-target only, making it more effective in multi-target situations and far easier to maintain.
Additionally, if Major Berserk is supplied elsewhere in your group (for example via Sorcerer ultimates), Venomous Smite allows you to benefit from both effects simultaneously — resulting in stronger overall performance in real content compared to Kinra’s.
Training dummies represent a highly controlled scenario and do not reflect real combat conditions. Actual encounters involve movement, mechanics, variable buff uptime, and multiple targets — all areas where this setup excels.
The final choice is yours — enjoy the build!
