Murder of Fire – Hybrid Dragonknight Build

Murder of Fire is a true Hybrid Dragonknight build created to get the absolute most out of the class in terms of damage, accessibility, and ease of use. Designed for all skill levels and capable of performing in all content, this build focuses on delivering strong results without demanding complex setups or difficult gear requirements.

This build has existed since Clockwork City, originally designed to help everyday players complete content they may have previously struggled with — efficiently, consistently, and with minimal effort. At the same time, it leaned into fun, effective, and themed sets that made the build genuinely enjoyable to play. Fire damage on a stamina build? It worked — even when it probably shouldn’t have.

Then the game changed.

With the Deadlands DLC, the rules shifted completely. All sets that previously granted Weapon Damage or Spell Damage now grant both. The same applies to Weapon and Spell Penetration, and Weapon and Spell Critical. These stats were fully consolidated, allowing magicka and stamina builds to benefit equally across the board.

This also extended to damage-based proc sets. Any proc that scales with weapon or spell damage now scales from your highest offensive stats. Sets like Valkyn Skoria, which previously dealt fire damage but relied heavily on magicka-focused stats, suddenly became far stronger on stamina-based builds. High weapon damage boosts them just as effectively as high spell damage — and on top of that, these procs can now critically hit.

In short, the build was buffed from every direction. What once required workarounds for penetration and scaling simply works by default now. Fire damage scales properly, penetration and critical values are unified, and the result is a setup where almost anything goes — and goes harder than ever.

With these changes in mind, the build evolved. The back bar weapon changed. Goodbye bow — hello flame staff. This is now fire and fury all the way, and it fits the build perfectly.

If your rotation is clean, you will produce excellent damage and provide strong group benefits. If your rotation is less refined, the build still performs exceptionally well thanks to powerful, consistent fire-and-forget proc sets that trigger constantly and feel incredibly satisfying as they explode through packs of enemies.

BUT WAIT, there's MORE!

Update 49 changed the entire class of the Dragonknight with a full rework, which meant we had to adapt AGAIN! And in true "good design all along" form, this build THRIVED! The new Dragonknight changes have buffed this setup yet again, so that with a few adapatations to the new skills and passives, this thing has surpassed damage numbers it could only once dream of!

This build is designed for all players, across all skill levels, in all content in The Elder Scrolls Online . When was the last time you saw 130k+ DPS from something people would casually label as an “overland build”?

Build Highlights

  • Accessible and usable by players of all skill levels
  • Capable of performing in all content
  • High sustain
  • High damage from proc sets that trigger constantly and can critically hit (excluding zaan, but that has HUGE burning application)
  • Everything you do contributes to triggering your sets
  • No trial gear required (although optional)
  • Buyable, tradeable gear for fast setup
  • Above all — incredibly fun to play!

Enjoy!!

Rotation

This rotation changes slightly because of the Dragonknight rework in Update 49.

The most important rule is maintaining your buffs and damage-over-time abilities at all times.

You must maintain:

  • Shatterspike Mantle – keep the resistance buff active and make sure the damage is applied to the target.
  • Incinerate
  • Elemental Blockade

Use the ability bar timers to track these.

Front Bar Priority

Your front bar rotation is fairly simple.

Maintain Barbed Trap at all times.

Your main spammable is Magma Fist. Cast it until Molten Whip begins flashing, then immediately cast Molten Whip.

When the whip flashes, use Molten Whip instead of Magma Fist.

Example pattern:

Light Attack → Magma Fist ×3 → Light Attack → Molten Whip

Maintaining Damage Over Time

Your damage-over-time abilities also need to be refreshed.

Reapply these roughly every 10 seconds:

  • Disintegrating Dragonfire
  • Searing Strike

Since the Update 49 changes, any Dragonknight ability now builds Molten Whip stacks, not just Magma Fist.

Examples:

  • Magma Fist ×3 → Molten Whip ready
  • Magma Fist → Disintegrating Dragonfire → Searing Strike → Molten Whip ready

Both approaches generate the same number of whip stacks.

This means your rotation is dynamic. When your damage-over-time abilities need refreshing, replace one cast of Magma Fist with the required skill.

Front Bar Summary

Your general rhythm should be:

Light Attack → Magma Fist ×3 → Light Attack → Molten Whip

Replace a Magma Fist cast when needed to refresh:

  • Disintegrating Dragonfire
  • Searing Strike

This maintains high DPS, keeps Heat Shock stacks active, and applies strong pressure while maintaining your damage-over-time effects.

Back Bar Maintenance

Between these rules maintain:

  • Shatterspike Mantle
  • Elemental Blockade
  • Incinerate

Use your Ultimate whenever it is ready. Use Take Flight for your own DPS, but if you are in a group, use the Standard of might. It will buff the group now!

Important Tip

This rotation takes practice.

Go into Options → Combat and enable Ability Timers. This will help track your buffs and damage-over-time effects much more easily, as shown in the video.

Murder of Fire – Gear Setup

This setup supports your rotation but also fires a lot of free dmaage just for hitting the targets. ALL gear can be acquired on normal Difficulty apart from the Monster helmet. Keep an eye on the weekend golden vendor in cyrodiil however, because they can sometimes be bought for gold or AP.

NOTE: As explained in the video, you CAN swap the sets to Pillar Of Nirn and Arms of Relequen, and this will give you about a 10-12k dps boost IF you are capable of pulling it off, every single time. If not, the drops in dps during mechanics, and the fact it's difficulty is heightened, it MAY be better for people to just stick to the basics. It hits like a truck mo matter what however, so it's up to you.
