ESO Update 50 Magicka Dragonknight Build
🔥 BURN - ESO Magicka Dragonknight Build
The BURN build is a pure Magicka Dragonknight DPS build for The Elder Scrolls Online. This build has existed for many years and has changed several times as the game evolved.
With the Dragonknight overhaul in Update 49, the class has shifted again and the BURN build returns to its original 2017 style. This version focuses on what Magicka Dragonknight does best. Flame damage over time abilities, and plenty of backflip whips!
🔥 The Mag DK Playstyle
Overitme the style has changed, even with subclasss options in recent past, but it is back to it's roots. Now it's style is about consistent damage over time, pure fire damage and as many back flip whips as you can manage! This is an absolute inferno of damage, hitting numbers over 40-45% more than previous patches!
Accessibility is of course key to designing builds depending on the intended target audience, as well as making things simple if and where possible. For the long term supporters this will hit you with nostalgia RIGHT in the feels, and for newer players to the channel, you will finally see what all the fuss was about when this build was in it's prime! Easy to use, accessible gear (trials but NORMAL is fine) and just all round fun and capable of EVERYTHING you may want to throw at it.
While this is a "Magicka Dragonknight build, hybridization passes over the years have made it possible to weave in other skills that fit the style and damage types that are actually not ALL stamina costing. And with update 49, some of the "fire" abilities, cost stamina too now instead of providing poison for the resource type...Which means? Our sustainability is BETTER since a couple of skills are of the opposite resource pool, yet SCALE off of the main one and retain the fire damage type! So while "Magicka Dragonknight" is kinda loose now, the theme, stats and application of it all is in tact for that RAW feel we used to love for the MAG DK!
🔥 Final Thoughts
The BURN build has come full circle. The Dragonknight changes allow the build to return to its roots as a true Magicka Dragonknight fire build. If you enjoy setting everything on fire and cracking enemies with Firey Whips, this build delivers exactly that. The subclassing Scorpion chains and skulls were fun, but we are now BACK where the build belongs!
BURN | Magicka Dragonknight Build Skills
This build is pretty much PURE fire, excluding the Barbed Trap, No more subclassing for Burn, just RAW Dragonknight all the way through!

Class Mastery
Update 50 has given us a new system called Class Mastery in The Elder Scrolls Online. If you decide to remain 100% pure class, you gain access to five unique Class Mastery passives, but can only choose two. These are the two selected for this build.

🔥 Burn Build – Rotation
Start the fight with your buffs already active. Shatterspike Mantle, Molten Armaments, and Incinerate should all be running before you engage.
Opening
Approach the enemy and begin with:
- Barbed Trap
- Swap Bars
- Light Attack → Shatterspike Mantle (to apply the damage over time to the target)
- Light Attack → Unstable Wall of Elements
- Swap back to the front bar
You now have Minor Force, your resistance buff, and your main damage effects active.
Main Rotation
Once the fight begins, the rotation is straightforward.
- If ready, open with Take Flight.
- Light Attack → Searing Strike
- Light Attack → Disintegrating Dragonfire
- Spam Light Attack → Flame Lash over and over
Continue using Light Attack → Flame Lash until another ability needs to be refreshed.
Replace Flame Lash with whichever timed ability is about to expire.
Searing Strike and Incinerate should always be allowed to complete their full duration.
Bar Swaps
When you need to refresh back bar abilities, always begin with:
Light Attack → the next front bar skill → then swap bars.
This keeps your damage consistent and makes the bar swap smoother. It takes a little practice but becomes natural very quickly.
Resource Management
If your resources begin to drop, use Heart of Flame when visiting the back bar.
Light Attack → Heart of Flame occasionally will maintain your resources for the entire fight.
Do not wait until you are empty. Use this around 40% resources so you stay ahead of the problem.
DO NOT heavy attack much, if you do so your set bonuses will punish you and remove your stacks of your class mastery passive. An unusual thing for ZOS to do with a class set, i know, but that IS where we are. If you MUST heavy attack, so be it, but limit how often you do and use other methods of management, as mentioned above.
Summary
Maintain your timed abilities and use Light Attack → Flame Lash the rest of the time.
Refresh skills when needed, keep your buffs active, and the build will do the rest.
TIP: Go into your combat options, find "Ability timers" be sure they are active on both front and back bar, and tracking skills will be FAR easier!
🏆 Champion Points – Burn Setup
Champion Points in The Elder Scrolls Online are a key part of the Burn Build setup. These choices focus on raw survival, sustain, and consistent damage output.
Once you hit level 50, Champion Points (CP) keep your character growing in three main constellations. This build focuses on Warfare (Blue), Fitness (Red), and minimal investment in Craft (Green) for passive travel speed, crafting bonuses, and other quality-of-life perks.

Potions, Poisons, & Food
🧪 Potion Ingredients
We do NOT need spell pots, we are using TRI pots. We have Major Sorcery and Prophecy covered at all times from our class skills, so Tri-pots all day long for full uptime on Major recovery bonuses for all three resources.
Tri-Stat Potions
🍲 Food (Max Health + Max Magicka)
Use any two-stat food that gives Max Health and Max Magicka. All three recipes listed below offer identical bonuses — choose whichever is cheapest or easiest for you to craft!
- Mistral Banana-Bunny Hash
Ingredients: Small Game , Bananas , Seasoning - Melon-Baked Parmesan Pork
Ingredients: White Meat , Melon , Cheese - Solitude Salmon-Millet Soup
Ingredients: Fish , Tomato , Millet
NOTE: You can swap to food options with recovery bonuses if you prefer, but bear in mind your flat stats will suffer.. That's personal preference and situational based of course as explained in the video. You don't want to be heavy attacking MUCH on this build. So pay close attention and use the tools the build has to support your sustainability. Especially heart of flame.
Race, Mundus and Attributes
e are using the Thief Mundus Stone.
All 64 Attribute Points are placed into Magicka.
The chosen race is High Elf, this has high Magicka, and weapon and spell damage bonuses and perfectly supports the build.
Race is ultimately a personal choice however. The high elf is optimal for the build's design but you will still perform incredibly well with minmal differences with ANY race. Just understand what you lose//gain by changing and you will do just fine!
