Almost Immortal Warrior - Dragonknight Tank Build for The Elder Scrolls Online (Update 49 – 2026)
⚔️ Back To Its Roots
The Almost Immortal Warrior has always been about doing one thing better than anything else — standing your ground no matter what the game throws at you.
With the Dragonknight class overhaul in Update 49, the build has returned to exactly where it started back in 2016: a 100% pure Dragonknight tank. No subclassing, just the raw power of the Dragonknight toolkit doing what it does best.
Despite the massive class changes, the core philosophy of the build remains intact, and if anything, the overhaul has strengthened it even further. The tools available to Dragonknights now make this setup more reliable, more durable, and more capable of controlling the battlefield than ever before.
Nine years later, the Almost Immortal Warrior continues to prove one simple truth: a good design lasts!
🛡️ Control, Support & Endless Sustain
This build is designed for tanks who want to be in control of every situation. Your job is not just to stand there and soak damage — it is to position enemies, maintain control of the fight, and support your team while staying alive indefinitely.
The goal is simple: never become a liability to your group.
A tank that constantly needs saving drains resources from the group. The Almost Immortal Warrior does the opposite. By maintaining your own survivability and sustain, you allow your healers to focus on the players who actually need it instead of babysitting the tank.
In return, you support the healers and the group by providing large damage shields and powerful heals that scale directly from your massive health pool. This is not an accident, the entire build is designed around maximizing that synergy. Group survival means they are in the fight longer, they can see more, and finally understand and apply mechanics, rather than a one shot every 5 seconds into a pull! The build now comes with IMPROVED sustainability and survival due to skill changes and burning status changes, AND can now BUFF the group with the Standard Of Might, which is now, a GROUP BUFF! #NoMoreSelfish Let's GO #PURECLASS!
🔥 Built To Endure
- Battlefield Control: Lock enemies into position, control pulls, and keep bosses exactly where your group needs them.
- Extreme Durability: Heavy armor, Dragonknight passives, and layered mitigation allow you to survive some of the hardest hitting encounters in the game.
- Massive Health Scaling: Shields and healing effects scale from your high health pool by design, turning your survivability into group support.
- Reliable Sustain: Carefully built resource management with a mixture of our chosen mythic item and build in recovery bonuses, allow full freedom and flexibility with our many utility skills. And since our heals scale off of health, the larger HEALTH pool is required as a stat bonus, NOT magicka or stamina!
- Group Utility: Damage shields, defensive buffs, and positioning tools keep your team safe. Not just by playing corredctly but also because of new skill bonuses. Unrelenting Grip (Your Chain Pull) Now called Chain Of Dominance, actually applies Major Cowardace on PULL! Yup, HUGE damage mitigation bonus right there by crippling the enemy weapon/spell damage!
🏆 Nine Years Strong
When this build first appeared in 2016, it quickly became one of the most durable and reliable tank setups available in The Elder Scrolls Online.
Over the years the game has changed dramatically, new systems, new mechanics and a full class overhaul has challenged the build time and time again, and yet Almost Immortal Warrior continues to stand the test of time.
Today, with the Dragonknight revamp in Update 49, the build is stronger than ever and remains one of the most dependable ways to tank dungeons, trials, arenas, and any challenge the game can throw at you.

🏆 Champion Points 2.0 – Priorities for the Almost Immortal Warrior Build
No matter what, these are the most important parts of the Champion Points 2.0 system. This is your first goal when pushing the Almost Immortal Warrior build in The Elder Scrolls Online .
You must slot the following Champion Point perks even if they are not fully leveled. These have the highest impact. Swap-outs for situational content are explained in the video guide.
- BLUE (Warfare) – Prioritize this tree for resistance, healing power, and damage boosts.
- RED (Fitness) – Focus on this tree for resource management, max health, and crowd control counter skills.
- GREEN (Craft) – These offer quality-of-life improvements like faster movement, looting, and crafting bonuses. Helpful, but not combat-critical.
It doesn’t matter what level you’re currently at. You can play ALL content regardless of CP level. Since the Flames of Ambition update, all characters have had their base stats increased, offering more balance for players under CP160.
As mentioned, slotables are your main objective. Make sure to:
- Unlock any prerequisite passive stars that lead to your desired slotables.
- Prioritize maxing out your slotables first — they deliver the biggest impact.
- Gradually fill in other passive stars as you progress.
Unlike older versions of Champion Points, there are no hard optimization checkpoints at 300, 600, or 900. There are no negative effects for taking everything — eventually, you’ll get every passive with no downside.
Best CP 2.0 Slotables for the Almost Immortal Warrior Build

- Ironclad

The Almost Immortal Warrior build has had multiple versions over time, and this particular version is a simple swap from the original healing/damage shield support version, to allow for a more trash control version! Technically speaking you can play the build exactly the same as the one in the video, given our new heaaling skill Hearth and home, but this one pulls crowds of enemies from ONE gapcloser/pull skill, rather than individuals.
↑ Back to TopNOTE: This healing setup is all about locking down survivability for your tank and keeping the group standing strong. With Major Mending always ticking, your allies get constant health regeneration, making those clutch moments a little less scary. The damage shields are up almost nonstop, soaking hits before they even land, which buys your team precious seconds to reposition or counterattack. Plus, the close-range heal over time ensures that everyone in the thick of the fight stays topped off without you having to spam heals like crazy. It’s a smooth, efficient way to maintain group health and turn the tide of any encounter. Trust me, once you get this set rolling, your raid or dungeon group will feel the difference immediately.
↑ Back to TopResistance Shredder Setup (no Mythic)
| Slot | Gear Set | Weight / Type | Trait | Enchantment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Head | Tremorscale | Heavy | Reinforced | Health |
| Shoulders | Tremorscale | Heavy | Reinforced | Health |
| Chest | Crimson Oath's Rive | Heavy | Reinforced | Health |
| Waist | Crimson Oath's Rive | Heavy | Sturdy | Health |
| Hands | Leeching Plate | Heavy | Sturdy | Health |
| Legs | Leeching Plate | Heavy | Sturdy | Health |
| Feet | Leeching Plate | Heavy | Sturdy | Health |
| Ring 1 | Crimson Oath's Rive | Jewelry | Infused / Healthy | Magicka Recovery |
| Ring 2 | Crimson Oath's Rive | Jewelry | Healthy | Magicka Recovery |
| Necklace | Crimson Oath's Rive | Jewelry | Healthy | Magicka Recovery |
| Weapon 1 | Leeching Plate (1H) | Weapon | Charged | Stamina return |
| Weapon 2 | Leeching Plate (Shield) | Shield | Reinforced | Stamina / Health |
| Weapon 3 | Leeching Plate (1H) | Weapon | Defending / Charged | Damage Shield / Crusher |
| Weapon 4 | Leeching Plate (Shield) | Shield | Reinforced | Stamina / Health |
Note: This Resistance Shredder Setup is very simple yet highly effective. Spamming shields applies powerful AoE resistance debuffs from Crimson Oath's Rive, while Tremorscale provides additional AoE resistance debuffs from the taunt you apply, which also strips resistances. Together, this setup achieves a total of over 16,000 resistance debuffing!
Light armor users already benefit from a closed resistance gap, and with this build, medium armor users require only a single sharpened weapon or a penetration set bonus to bridge the remaining difference. It's an easy, efficient solution!
For optimal performance, replace Unassailable in the Champion Points blue tree with Bulwark. This change guarantees more resistances and boosts the strength of the Tremorscale set, as its debuff scales with your resistance stats. Even if your resistances exceed 33,000, the effect continues to grow—many players overlook this important detail.
Important: This entire setup uses heavy armor, so gear slot choices are flexible as long as the trait in each slot is correct.

| Weapon 3 | Leeching Plate (1H) | Weapon | Defending / Charged | Damage Shield / Crusher |
| Weapon 4 | Leeching Plate (Shield) | Shield | Sturdy | Stamina / Health |
Note: This setup is VERY simple. Blocking protects your group, spamming shields protects your group, and getting HIT protects both you AND the group! What more could you ask for?!

| Slot | Gear Set | Weight / Type | Trait | Enchantment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Head | Thurvokun | Heavy | Reinforced | Max Health |
| Shoulders | Thurvokun | Heavy | Reinforced | Max Health |
| Chest | Frozen Watcher | Heavy | Reinforced | Max Health |
| Waist | Frozen Watcher | Heavy | Sturdy | Max Health |
| Hands | Leeching Plate | Heavy | Sturdy | Max Health |

| Shield 1 | Leeching Plate | Shield | Reinforced | Max Health |
| Weapon 2 | Leeching Plate (One Handed Weapon) | Weapon | Defending | Any / Player choice |
| Shield 2 | Leeching Plate | Shield | Reinforced | Max Health |
While this version plays very much like the rest, it has a HUGE advantage when it comes to AoE capability with status damage and is built to take advantage of variables that may present themselves in the form of verses and visions in the Infinite Archive. This is incredibly strong and also applies damage, making it great for solo or duo play. With this setup, you literally need to just find your space, plant your feet, and hold block! Everything will work for you with MINIMAL effort!
Basic tank rules apply: pull it, pin it, taunt it, and maintain healthy stacks of enemies, and it’s all over! Do your job and the sets will do the rest!
